The return of a champion
On May 7, 2021, the official drifting competition was held at Emirates Motorplex in um al Qwain. This event served as the setting for Afra’s return to the drifting tracks.
Although the event was announced on short notice, Yuliana had the opportunity to participate thanks to Emirates Motorplex to count her in as always with the best support and the fact that her Nissan Patrol Black Edition had been prepared for a presentation that was postponed. The champion’s car only needed a general overhaul and minor service, to ensure that everything was in order.
Before the competition
In addition to the general overhaul, the renowned competitor also featured a new decal design for her vehicle.
Regarding Afra’s own preparation, the champion acknowledges that she was unable to perform physical training for two years, but that she prepared herself mentally every day. Mental preparation is essential for Yuliana, who considers that sometimes this is more important than practice.
In the words of the champion: “If your car is ready but you are not, things will not work well. I have seen that this has happened with other runners and athletes, and most of them cannot handle the situation if the will is not trained! Mental strength and discipline are essential! “
The improved Nissan Patrol Black Edition
Yuliana participated in the past Custom Show Emirates with the Black Edition Club, and as part of her participation, she would also perform at the event’s drifting activity. This activity was suspended, but the improvements to Afra’s car had already been made.
These improvements consisted of the installation of a new engine that is twice as powerful as the previous one, and a new clutch or double plate. However, because the drifting presentation was postponed, the champion did not have a chance to test the changes made to her Black Edition. In other words, Yuliana entered the competition relying on her car and herself.
The official freestyle drift event: the return of Afra
The long-awaited return of the United Arab Emirates champion was an experience that both her fans and herself longed for.
Afra says that she felt alive again by being in the place where she feels great. Although she was a bit concerned that she hadn’t tested her Nissan Patrol before the competition, she put her skills to use and her participation was flawless.
Many new and young drivers participated in the event, with very well prepared vehicles. Given this fact, Yuliana felt that her Black Edition was the only one with the worst configuration, but that did not stop her. And even though her car is heavy and very difficult to control, to her surprise Afra realized that even she had leveled up.
In the words of the champion: “Even though I am very critical of myself, very critical! I have to admit the difference.”
In addition to the concern that Yuliana felt about not having tested her car, she also had to be attentive to the new and strict rules. But deep down she trusted in herself and the excellent work done by Ali Alshawi, who did the work on the roll cage and dashboard for the Black Edition.
New rules and increased security
One of the most noticeable changes for Afra was the new competition rules. These range from the condition of the car to the clothing used during the competition.
These rules are becoming stricter and continue to improve, thanks to the hard work between Emirates motorplex and Sheikh Marwan Bin Rashid Al Mualla. The event, as well as its organization, was successful and great.
Sheikh Marwan Bin Rashid Al Mualla with his team are making a great effort to complete the track and take it to another level, which will provide more safety for the track and for the participants.
